Quilts of Valor

From the beginning, HeartString members have been making and donating quilts to wounded soldiers and veterans and in 2008 became even more involved in making Quilts of Valor as one of our members, Alycia, set a goal of 400 Quilts of Valor for 2009.

Starting in January 2009, we will add Red/White/Blue HeartStrings blocks to those that we collect year around. Following the guidelines, you can make any number of these blocks to send in for group quilts.

You may also choose to make a complete top. June Moore has offered the assistance of longarm quilting services for these Quilts of Valor and included the option of having the finished quilts sent to Alycia. June has provided some additional guidelines for these tops.

  1. The quilts must be at least 50 x 60 and no larger than twin size.
  2. The backing should be provided and 6-8 inches longer and wider than the top.
  3. If the quilter agrees to do the binding, it should be prepared according to their
    specifications.
  4. When you are ready to send the top; complete the request form.
  5. If the longarmer is to send it on to Alycia, the topper needs to give Alycia’s address as
    the destination.

Of course, as always you may also contact Mary at
mmcjohnson@gmail.com to have any HeartStrings top quilted if you prefer.
