The Aussies have been busy

Stephanie shared these two tops ready for binding … The blue/green one was made by her and the one on the bottom by Julie.

And she’s got block sets too. The first two are pieced by Stephanie and the third set with the red centers are Marlene’s first HeartStrings blocks.

You can see we’re having lots of fun with our 2012 Block Challenge. You can find the details for joining in here.

Here’s a fun string quilt

Finished by MaryH and she writes:

This one is made of string blocks that a member gave to be finished by someone (ME!). I have no idea how it was supposed to look, but this is how it turned out! I don’t know the name of the block or pattern, but it was fun to finish and is backed with a lovely dark purple flannel. It will make a nice warm quilt for a child.

It will given to local charities here in Spokane through our WSQ quilt guild Mountain of Quilts.

Participants from all over

While not everyone is able to participate in our sew-in’s in person, we do get great support from the group who send in blocks and supplies to support our efforts. Prior to our sew-in yesterday Luisa and 6 friends from Italy had sent in a number of block sets to be assembled and donated.

Sue and her Mom assembled a number of the tops before the sew-in and you can see those and others assembled at the sew-in yesterday at this link.

Sheree shows off one of the block sets sent by Luisa and the top she assembled from them.

Variations

Don’t you love seeing different versions of a quilt using the same block? It just so happens that Nikki and I are working on similar string quilts right now.

She’s using a 9 inch finished block with black centers.

I’m using an 8 inch finished block and varying the color of my stars.

Brenda reminded us that we had a photo of a blue version that Angie had been working on at a sew-in that was made with 6 inch blocks.

If you’d like to make your own version here’s a link to a brief description of how I’m making my quilt which I’m making based on a vintage quilt I saw on eBay.

Quilt as you Go

Stephanie has been busy making and assembling Quilt as You Go HeartStrings.

This is one of 3 she recently finished. These blocks are great because they not only use up leftover strips and strings but they also use leftover batting scraps. You can find instructions at the link above and you’ll note there are several links for different methods for assembly the blocks — if you want to finish your quilt like hers, Stephanie used Keryn’s method so click that link when you’re done making your blocks.
